Common dogwood - A deciduous shrub up to about 3m tall, with upright habit. The young shoots are greenish, red-flushed in winter. Mid-green ovate leaves appear in spring, and turn a deep red in autumn. Small white flowers in flat clusters appear in summer, followed by black berries. Plant in moist, well drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Hardiness rating H6.
