Spindle Tree - A deciduous, large, spreading native hedgerow shrub up to 3m tall, growing well on chalky soils. Narrowly oval, mid-green leaves are produced in spring on green stems, the leaves turning rich red in autumn. Nectar-rich, green and white flowers are produced in summer, followed by an abundance of scarlet capsules which open to reveal orange-coated seeds. Plants in full sun or partial shade, in moist, well drained soil. Hardiness rating H6.
