£2.05

Common Beech - A noble, native, large tree reaching up to 30m in height, with a spreading crown. Ideal for calcareous soils, and makes excellent hedges. The broadly elliptic leaves appear in spring, yellow green, turning to rich golden copper and then to russet-brown in autumn. Small green flowers are produced in early spring, and are followed by bristly nuts. Plant in moist, well drained soil, avoiding heavy clay, in full sun or partial shade. Hardiness rating H6. If planting for hedging, plant 7 per metre for a double staggered row.
