Sacred bamboo – Heavenly bamboo: a medium sized, elegant, upright, evergreen shrub with a bamboo-like habit, up to around 2m high.   The large compound green leaves and lanceolate leaflets are tinged purplish red in spring and autumn.   Small white flowers are borne in long terminal panicles in summer, followed by red or sometimes yellow or white berries.   Plant in moist well drained acid, alkaline or neutral soil in full sun.   Hardiness rating H5.
