Beard tongue - A semi-evergreen perennial with slender dark green leaves. Flower spikes up to 90cm tall are produced from summer to autumn, with grape-purple tubular flowers carried in tiers. Plant in moist, well drained soil, avoiding clay, in full sun or partial shade. In cold areas protect overwinter with a dry winter mulch. Hardiness rating H4.
