Australian tree fern: An evergreen tree fern, native to Australia, growing slowly up to a height of around 4m, with a stout, reddish-brown trunk and a terminal rosette of deeply divided, glossy dark green arching fronds up to 3m in length, which are evergreen in mild areas, but may loose its leaves in colder climes. Protect in winter by insulating wrapping such as straw. Plant in moist well drained acid or neutral soil, in full or partial shade. Hardiness rating H3.
