A vigorous evergreen, compact shrub up to 1m in height, with glossy green elliptic leaves which are scented when crushed.   Large clusters of deep reddish-purple buds appear in autumn, which open to masses of very small, pale pink flowers in spring.   Plant in moist, well drained acid or neutral soil in full or partial shade.   Hardiness rating H5.
