Rhododendron ‘Catawbiense Grandiflorum’

£109.39

Rhododendron ‘Catawbiense Grandiflorum’ A large evergreen shrub of rounded habit, growing between 2.5 and 4m high, with broadly elliptic, glossy green leaves.   Rounded clusters of funnel-shaped lilac flowers with cinnamon coloured speckles on the upper petals, are produced from late spring to early summer.  This is an ericaceous plant and therefore requires an acid soil and will not thrive in alkaline soils with a pH of 7.5 or higher, and being a woodland plant, it requires moist, well drained soil that is rich in organic matter and partial shade, but will benefit from some sun, but avoid the strong early afternoon sun.   Care is needed when planting as the roots are very fine and good quality ericaceous compost, peat or leaf mould should be added.   Rhododendrons will not thrive if planted too deeply and the roots must be kept moist at all times during dry spells.   Hardiness rating H7. At certain times of the year the trees and plants that you buy from us may not look like the images shown on our website, this may be due to deciduous leaves falling, or the plant finishing flowering. All photographs on our website are of our own grown stock, or in the case of Italian specimens or bare root hedging, these are photographs of the plants actually in stock.
