Leucothoe axillaris ‘Curly Red’

£79.00

A striking, spreading, low growing evergreen shrub up to about 45-60cm tall and wide, with thick, undivided, curling and puckered leaves around 5cm long.   The leaves emerge in a vibrant orange-red colour in spring, maturing to dark green and then scarlet-red in the autumn and purple in winter.   Clusters of small, white heather-like, slightly fragrant flowers are produced in spring, occasionally followed by small red berries.   This is an excellent ground cover and is suitable for covering shady banks or slopes and other shady areas.  This is an acid loving plant, so thrives best in moist well drained acid soil in full sun or partial shade.   Hardiness rating H6. At certain times of the year the trees and plants that you buy from us may not look like the images shown on our website, this may be due to deciduous leaves falling, or the plant finishing flowering. All photographs on our website are of our own grown stock, or in the case of Italian specimens or bare root hedging, these are photographs of the plants actually in stock.
