Cornus alba ‘Nightfall’

£18.50

Cornus alba ‘Nightfall’ This deciduous, hardy, low-maintenance shrub produces dark green leaves in spring, which deepen to a rich purple as the season progresses and gives a spectacular display during the autumn.   The undersides of the leaves are a velvety grey, which provide a unique contrast against the darker foliage, and its red branches add an outstanding visual interest during the winter months.   This shrub has an upright habit and is ideal for use as a hedge, screen or background planting.   This plant will benefit from regular pruning after the first year of planting, but cut back to within 5-7cm of ground level each March, and mulch will well rotted compost or horse manure, as this will encourage new growth and enhance the vivid colour contrast.   Plant in moist, well drained fertile acid alkaline or neutral soil in full sun or partial shade.   Hardiness rating H7. At certain times of the year the trees and plants that you buy from us may not look like the images shown on our website, this may be due to deciduous leaves falling, or the plant finishing flowering. All photographs on our website are of our own grown stock, or in the case of Italian specimens or bare root hedging, these are photographs of the plants actually in stock.
