Viburnum opulus Guelder rose: Water elder.   A large, vigorous, deciduous shrub of spreading habit, with maple like 3-5 lobed leaves, with rich autumn colours.   Flattened corymbs appear in June or July, and are edged with showy white ray florets, giving an effect similar to lace-cap hydrangeas, which are followed in autumn by shining red, translucent fruits, lasting long into the winter.   This is a familiar native of hedgerows and suitable in wet or boggy situations.   Plant in all types of moist, well drained soil, in full sun or partial shade.   Hardiness rating H6. Sold in bundles of 25 whips.
