Killarney Strawberry Tree: An evergreen large, spreading shrub or small tree, often with an old gnarled appearance on mature plants, with deep brown shredded bark, and mid-green leathery leaves. Pitcher shaped white flowers, sometimes pink tinged, appear in panicles up to 5cm long, whilst simultaneously, strawberry-like edible red fruits from the previous year’s flowers, ripen, although the plants are usually grown for ornamental purposes in the UK. Plant in moist, well drained acid, alkaline or neutral soil, in full sun. Hardiness rating H5.
