Japanese holly:   An evergreen shrub or small tree of slow growth, reaching around 4 meters in 10-20 years, with small, glossy dark green leaves up to 2cm long.   Clusters of small white flowers appear in spring followed by black berries in autumn.   This is an excellent plant for small, clipped hedges and topiary, and is now regularly planted as a substitute for box.   Plant in moist, well drained acid, alkaline or neutral soil, in full sun or partial shade.   Hardiness rating H6.
