A medium sized, deciduous shrub up to 3-4m high, with mid-green oval leaves to 15cm long. Deep reddish-purple flower buds appear in mid spring, which open to fragrant, cup shaped red-purple flowers which are pink within. Plant in moist well drained acid or neutral soil, avoiding shallow chalk, in full sun or partial shade. Hardiness rating H6.
