A slow-growing, large, dense evergreen shrub of compact growth, eventually reaching 2.5-3m. Holly-like leaves are dark, shining oval green leathery, toothed, up to 2.5-5cm long. Very fragrant white flowers are profusely borne in April and May, sometimes followed by black fruits. Ideal for an evergreen hedge. Plant in all types of moist, well drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Hardiness rating H5.
