Phormium ‘Chocomint’

Phormium ‘Chocomint’ is a bold, architectural New Zealand flax that brings year-round structure and colour to the garden. Its upright, sword-shaped leaves are a rich chocolate brown, sharply edged with cool mint-green margins, creating a striking contrast that works beautifully in contemporary and coastal planting schemes.

Reaching around 90–120cm in height and spread, ‘Chocomint’ forms a neat, clump-forming plant that makes an excellent focal point in borders or containers. In summer, mature plants may produce tall flower spikes with tubular reddish blooms, adding extra seasonal interest.

Exceptionally low maintenance, Phormium ‘Chocomint’ thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. Once established it is tolerant of drought and coastal conditions. In the UK it is best suited to sheltered positions, with protection recommended in prolonged or severe frost.
