English Yew/Common Yew:  One of only three British native conifers.   An evergreen, small to medium sized tree, or large shrub, with dark green or almost black-green leaves up to 3cm long.   Small, insignificant flowers are produced on female plants, followed by fleshy red fruits.   A well-known tree, often found in churchyards.   If planted in well drained loam, yew will grow on almost pure chalk, or in very acid soils.   Plant in full or partial shade or full sun.   Hardiness rating H7.
