Snake bark maple - A small, spreading deciduous tree, with striking white-striped bark. Initially its habit is upright, strong growing, with deep red, white striated young shoots, and is spectacular as a young tree, and is especially vibrant in the sun, the dark green leaves turn orange in autumn. The green fruits are often suffused red, and hang all along the branches in autumn. Thrives in a moist well drained soil, but not heavy clay, in full sun or partial shade. Hardiness rating H5.
