Laurus nobilis Bay Tree: A large, evergreen shrub of erect habit or small tree, with aromatic, leathery, glossy, dark green, narrowly ovate leaves up to 10cm long.   The dried or fresh leaves are often used for culinary purposes.   Small pale, greenish-yellow flowers are produced in spring, followed by oval berries 1.5cm in diameter, turning glossy black when ripe.   Tolerates clipping well and thrives in coastal areas, but can be subject to frost damage in cold areas.   Plant in moist, well drained acid, alkaline or neutral soil in full sun or partial shade.   Hardiness rating H4.
