Umbrella pine: parasol pine: A slow growing, very hardy evergreen conifer, with dense whorls of dark green linear leaves up to 13cm long, arranged in fused pairs looking like the spokes of an umbrella. Attractive cones 6-10cm long are produced in autumn, and are green at first, ripening to brown in the second year. Native of Japan. Plant in moist, well drained lime-free soil, in full sun or partial shade. Hardiness rating H6.
